Working on Kaurna lands

Lucy is part of the Systems Initiatives team and leads the Our Town initiative, supporting community-led, place-based approaches to mental health and wellbeing across regional South Australia.

She is deeply passionate about creating the enabling conditions for power sharing, community leadership, and the centring of marginalised voices to drive empowering, transformative systems change.

With over 20 years’ experience in youth and community practice and research, Lucy brings a nuanced understanding of empowerment and power dynamics across complex systems. With a background in facilitation and coaching, as well as participatory research and evaluation, Lucy is a deep and empathetic listener, mirror holder, curious questioner, positive reframer and opportunity seeker.

Lucy holds a PhD in youth and community empowerment and has co-authored three books that translate real-world practice into grounded pragmatic insights.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find her seeking adventure outdoors, riding her bike through the Adelaide Hills or taking long dog walks at the beach.

  • PhD “Suddenly I see” – Outdoor youth development’s impact on young women’s wellbeing: A model of empowerment.

Fire to Flourish

Fire to Flourish

In the wake of increasing bushfires, floods and other disaster events, it’s critical for communities to pave new ways to lead, imagine, connect and invest in their communities’ future. Fire to Flourish is a five-year, $75m partnership that aims to empower communities in bushfire-affected communities to develop novel approaches to strengthening community resilience.
