Bold Ideas, Better Lives Challenge

What is the Bold Ideas, Better Lives Challenge?

With the Bold Ideas, Better Lives Challenge we want to give you the chance to turn your big idea into big impact. So we're putting our money (and our networks) where our mouth is and offering you the opportunity to make your idea a reality.

We’re offering a range of capacity building partnerships and we’ve got up to $1 million to invest in your ideas – we’re committed to supporting up to 10 projects that show the best and brightest ideas in social innovation across Australia.

Applications are now closed for the Bold Ideas Better Lives Challenge 2010. Check out the shortlist of 12 who are through to Stage 2 here.

What are we looking for?

Our mission says it all: bold ideas, better lives. How can you show us your idea is bold and will make for better lives? It’s simple:

Innovation: The creativity and innovation of the idea (this may include older ideas that have not been tried out in practice or in a particular context)

Impact: The relevance of the idea to the Australian context and the degree of benefit and lasting impact on the social sector and the community

Implementation:  The practicality of the idea and ability to muster the resources needed to implement/replicate the idea plus the risks of implementation.

The Challenge is open to anyone with a good implementable idea.  However, all ideas must primarily benefit a community within Australia.

 So you want in?

Stage 1: Tell us about it.

Applications are now closed. Applicants filled in an application form and uploaded their 1-3 minute media clip - the 'pitch' for their idea (this was a movie, a song, a powerpoint presentation - you name it). We wanted to see innovative AND realistic ideas –  to see that they'd thought about timelines, resources, monitoring & evaluation and risk assessment as well as vision.

Stage 2: The lucky few.

Our panel of judges has shortlisted 12 ideas to be developed further. We will now work with these 12 projects to help them develop a fully implementable project plan and we’re sweetening the deal with expert advice and a little cash injection ($1000). Check them out here. You can also check out the pitches (the media files submitted by applicants as part of Stage 1) of nearly all 258 applicants on our TACSI Challenge Vimeo channel.

Stage 3: Roll up your sleeves.

One or more winners (up to 10) will be announced in October at our Social Innovation Showcase in Adelaide, Australia. Then it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get implementing!
